My first day of "work"

Dr. Kazama wanted me to arrive on Monday at noon, since he was coming in at 11:30. I decided to walk all the way there, since I knew it would take about 40 minutes and I wanted to check the distance again. Winding your way through middle class tokyo neighborhoods is kind of nice. I felt like I would knock into Yumiko around every corner! (Those of you who understand this reference are perverted freaks, or huge fans of superflat, or both.)
Anyway, I arrived on campus to find it basically deserted. Classes don't start for a week, so this wasn't unexpected. Once I met up with Kazama-sensei at noon, he showed me my office (it's shared with 3 other people, but I have a nice large window and plenty of space. Plus a computer (which is old and crappy, but functional). Anyway, I was greeted without much fanfare. Okay, to be blunt, I wasn't greeted at all. I arrived, and that was about it. I figured the group would go out to lunch, but in fact, it was just me and Kazama-san (he asked that everyone just use -san and not -sensei among the group). The cafeteria was CHEAP and good. Shouyuu Ramen, 340 yen (that's about $3). Plus tea is free :). Afterwards I did a bunch of online research, printed out some papers, and headed out around 4 PM to get some more errands done (see next few posts).

Here's my office:
