Straightforward title, huh?
I got a new cellphone yesterday after work. It's extremely cool, is a portable digital television recorder, PDA, internet browser... Hell, I think it'll probably do my dishes if I could figure out what buttons to press. Here's the details of the cell phone plan, as simplified as I can possibly make it:
I bought the cell phone with 24 payments of 3200 yen a month. But for the first two months it's only 1080 yen. I also subscribed to the "white" plan, which is 980 yen a month, with the "double white" option which is another 980 yen a month, plus the "packet houdai" data plan which ranges from 920 yen to 4200 yen a month. However, because I bought the phone and promised a 24 month contract, my monthly expenses are discounted by 2200 yen per month. So, minimum, I pay 980*2+920+3200-2200=~4000 yen per month, or about $35. Calls to other Softbank phones are free most of the day, and calls to any other domestic phones are "only" 18 yen per 30 seconds. Who knows how much international calls are. Incoming calls are free. It's pretty weird knowing I just bought a $650 phone, but with the 2200 yen per month discount it's really more like a $200 phone.
Suffice it to say it's totally cool. Who needs a television when you can watch all the Tokyo channels on your cell phone!
